Alice Springs based apprentice Tim Childs in on top of the world after his achievements this year!

Tim commenced with GTNT, hosted to Power and Water Corporation in January 2013 to complete his Certificate III in ESI - Power Systems - Distribution Overhead and after four years of training, he immediately signed up to become an apprentice electrician, completing his Certificate III in Electro-technology Electrician.

The dual qualification opportunity provided by his host business is valuable. “It’s so much more efficient to be a linesman and an electrician” Tim says. “It means you can do both jobs, rather than having to call out two people. It also gives me the satisfaction of working in two trades”.

Earlier this year, Tim was named our GTNT Apprentice of the Year for 2017 and was encouraged by his host business and GTNT to submit a nomination for the Austin Asche Apprentice of the Year category at the NT Training Awards - which he did.

Tim was selected as a finalist at the NT Training Awards and awarded Runner Up - a massive achievement for the 30 year old.

In addition to the two awards above Tim was also a finalist at the Master Builders NT Excellence in Building and Construction Awards in August for categories: NECA Electrical Apprentice of the Year and Overall Apprentice of the Year. Tim was successfully named as the Overall Apprentice of the Year, was selected as one of nine entrants to be put forward as finalists for the National Awards Night.

The Master Builders prestigious National Excellence Awards recognises and celebrates the nation's best builders, their teams and the projects which have won them acclaim in the residential, commercial and civil construction sectors. They also award the National Apprentice of the Year and Young Builder of the Year.

Tim Childs along with Steve Burine, Team Leader Power Networks attended the National Awards Night, which was held in Hobart on Saturday 25th November 2017. Unfortunately Tim wasn’t awarded National Apprentice of the Year, but he is still our superstar and we are very proud of him.
