Apprentice and Trainee numbers in the Northern Territory have reached an all-time high tipping over 4000 active in-training across the NT this month.
The latest data from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research show there were 349 235 apprentices and trainees in-training across Australia as of 31 December 2021, which is 16.8% higher than at the same time in 2020. In trade occupations, numbers were up 12%, while non-trade occupations were up 25.3%.
“The Northern Territory has never seen apprentice and trainee numbers this high, and this is largely a result of the recently concluded Australian Government’s Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements wage subsidy, and extensive support from Territory employers”, said GTNT Group CEO Kathryn Stenson.
“Territory businesses are committed to contributing to a skilled labour force and GTNT Group are encouraging school leavers, or anyone seeking a new career to consider an apprenticeship or traineeship pathway. The earning potential for an apprentice or trainee at completion is at a record high, and the Territory must continue to focus on growing our own skills.”
