Combine training with paid employment in over 500 industry specific occupations.
"Many parents are still inclined to encourage their children to go to university after leaving school, rather than consider a VET career pathway. Others are convinced that VET is only for traditional trades like plumbing and carpentry. We need to dispel those myths. The fact is that VET qualifications lead to successful, meaningful, professional careers with great salaries and outstanding career prospects." - The Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, the Hon Karen Andrews MP.

Start your career while still at School
School Based Apprenticeships enable you to gain a vocational and technical qualification while completing your school studies. Your career advisers and teachers will know if you are able to undertake an Apprenticeship while you are studying for your NTCET and can assist you in choosing the most suitable subjects. School-based Apprenticeships are a great career option for students in Year 11 and Year 12.
The benefit of completing a School Based Apprenticeship is you can finish Years 11 and 12 while making a head start on your career. You will be paid an apprentice wage for the time you spend 'on-the-job' with your host business. You will be covered by a training contract, which links to an industrial award or agreement.
Receive the full benefits under mentorship
You will be assigned a GTNT Group Employment Specialist who will provide monthly mentoring to ensure your completion. Apprentices/trainees are assured of continuous work and training, culminating in a national qualification. Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between an apprenticeship and a traineeship?
Apprenticeships generally last four years and cover traditional trade areas such as: building and construction; hairdressing; cooking; electrical; automotive; engineering and manufacturing etc. Traineeships generally cover a much wider range of occupations than apprenticeships, however the training is usually shorter, lasting between one and two years. A number of higher level qualification traineeships have now been introduced which take longer to complete. Both apprenticeships and traineeships are easily linked to further vocational education and university studies.
- I’m not sure what I want to do. Where are the best career opportunities?
GTNT Group know what opportunities are available across a wide range of industries and have branches in four locations across the Northern Territory. We can help you work out what will suit you best and advise you on how to achieve the career and lifestyle you want.
- What if I don’t like working with my host business?
For an apprenticeship or traineeship to be successful it is crucial to get the right fit between the apprentice or trainee and the host business. GTNT Group’s Employment Specialists play a vital role in monitoring the quality of the learning experience both in the workplace and off the job. They can act as a mediator to resolve any workplace issues that may arise along the way and can provide an alternative placement if this becomes necessary.
- What happens if I change my mind and I don’t want to complete the apprenticeship or traineeship?
With GTNT Group you have someone to directly talk through issues with. Upon commencing with GTNT Group you will be assigned an Employment Specialists (ES). Your ES is independent from your host business so you can discuss what is influencing your thinking. They can provide an objective perspective, explain the options you have and likely outcomes of particular actions. If you do decide to complete the apprenticeship or traineeship down the track then they can assist with a new placement at a later date.
