About the program
The Northern Territory Government has launched the NT Future Workforce Pilot Program, helping local businesses grow their workforce while creating employment pathways for young Territorians.
Delivered by GTNT Group, the pilot will support 20 young people aged 15–18 in the Darwin, Palmerston and rural region who are disengaged from school to transition into structured employment leading to apprenticeships, traineeships or ongoing jobs.
The program reduces the risks and costs associated with hiring young workers, giving businesses the confidence to invest in the Territory’s future workforce.
Students
HOW DO STUDENTS GET INVOLVED?
Students interested must talk to their Career Advisor, VET Coordinator or Principal at school, as the referral must come from the school.
ELIGIBILITY
- Aged 15+, enrolled in school
- Not in VETfSS, apprenticeship or traineeship
- At risk of leaving school without a clear pathway
- Must complete the school work experience orientation first

Employers
For businesses, involvement in the NT Future Workforce Pilot Program is designed to be practical, low-risk and focused on building future talent pipelines rather than creating a heavy administrative burden.
Businesses will support exposure to industry, work readiness and pathways into employment or training. Wage support will help offset early employment costs, while mentoring, attendance monitoring and pastoral care provided by GTNT Group supports both employers and participants. These measures reduce recruitment risk, ease administrative burden and improve retention outcomes for small and medium-sized businesses in the Darwin region.
BENEFITS
- Four-weeks of work experience
- Wage subsidy up to $100 per week for 6 months
- Program management fee is covered for the 6 months
- Weekly workplace visits provided during the work experience
- Fortnightly workplace visits during the 6 months
