GTNT Group as the employer of your apprentices and trainees will facilitate recruitment, selection, provide management and mentoring support of training to ensure retention, facilitate payroll, and monitor workplace health and safety.

GTNT Group are flexible in providing your organisation to have as much input in the apprentice management as desired. Alternatively, if you wish to legally employee your apprentices and trainees, you can do so and GTNT Group can assist with our management service.

An apprentice/trainee could be entering the workforce for the very first time, wanting to work in a particular the industry or perhaps you have an existing worker who wants to undertake an apprenticeship or traineeship.

If the apprentice or trainee is under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must sign the National Training Contract as this is a legally binding document that outlines the agreed length of training and the type of apprenticeship or traineeship being undertaken.

This is the organisation that will deliver the training, conduct assessments and issue the nationally recognised qualification upon completion of the apprenticeship/traineeship. Training may take place on the job or away from the workplace.

The Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Provider - Australian Apprenticeships NT (AANNT) are contracted by the Australian Government to provide information, support and assistance to employers, apprentices and trainees to assist them with the sign-up and administration of their National Training Contract.

They are also able to provide targeted services to identified individuals and employers to help them successfully complete their apprenticeship or traineeship arrangements. AANNT are the body responsible for registering the National Training Contract. Any changes to the National Training Contract must be approved by the Northern Territory Government.

GTNT Group’s expert Employment Specialists, specifically assigned to your business work with apprentices and trainees to monitor their learning progress. A registered training organisation (RTO), is an organisation selected to provide the Vocational Education and Training (VET) to students, resulting in qualifications or statements of attainment that are recognised and accepted by industry and other educational institutions throughout Australia. Our industry experts will assist you in selecting the correct RTO to use and will then liaise with them throughout your apprentice or trainees training.

Apprenticeships and traineeships offer the ability to ‘learn and earn’ from day one. They combine training and paid employment, leading to skills and qualifications that are recognised across Australia and by other employers in the industry. Apprenticeships and traineeships can be full-time, part-time or school-based and are available to anyone of working age. You can be a school student, a school-leaver, re-entering the workforce or simply wishing to change careers. Apprenticeships and traineeships are available in a variety of certificate levels in more than 500 occupations across Australia, in traditional trades, as well as a diverse range of emerging careers in most sectors of business and industry.

Apprenticeships generally last four years and cover traditional trade areas such as: building and construction; hairdressing; cooking; electrical; automotive; engineering and manufacturing etc. Traineeships generally cover a much wider range of occupations than apprenticeships, however the training is usually shorter, lasting between one and two years. A number of higher level qualification traineeships have now been introduced which take longer to complete. Both apprenticeships and traineeships are easily linked to further vocational education and university studies.

Apprentices and trainees are generally covered by the same employment conditions as other employees. However, they are also subject to the conditions of their training contract. The training contract is an agreement that the apprentice or trainee and their employer sign detailing the workplace based training that will be provided. It also confirms any off-the-job training which is delivered by a Registered Training Organisation. Participation in an Australian Apprenticeship is open to anyone aged 15 and over. The Northern Territory Department of Trade, Business and Innovation will assess applications that vary from this on a case-by-case basis.

With GTNT Group you have someone to directly talk through issues with. Upon commencing with GTNT Group you will be assigned an Employment Specialists (ES). Your ES is independent from your host business so you can discuss what is influencing your thinking. They can provide an objective perspective, explain the options you have and likely outcomes of particular actions. If you do decide to complete the apprenticeship or traineeship down the track then they can assist with a new placement at a later date.

Your host business may offer you ongoing employment and you can choose whether to continue working with them or seek other employment. GTNT Group can provide practical advice on career opportunities and the next steps in progressing your career.

Apprentices and Employers may be eligible for Northern Territory Government and/or Australian Government funded incentives, including the Trade Support Loans, Work Gear / Work Wear Bonus and Commencement and Completion Incentives. Eligibility is assessed upon submission of the Training Contract.

If you are unhappy working with your host business, you need to discuss this with your designated ES. Your ES will be able to provide suggestions and as GTNT Group is your legal employer there may be an option to place you with another host business.
