“The satisfaction of driving past a house and knowing my hands played a role in its creation, providing a new home for a family, is incomparable.”
Alec Blundell is a first-year carpentry apprentice hosted to Asbuild NT in Alice Springs. Entering the construction industry as an apprentice allowed him to follow a passion for building that was instilled in him from an early age while helping his father with paving and constructing their shed.
Unlike his previous work experiences, construction resonated with him on a different level. He has always enjoyed working with his hands and the dynamic nature of the job. Each day unfolds with new tasks, and witnessing the progress as builds evolve is truly satisfying.
Working with Asbuild NT on the Remote Housing contract has been especially fulfilling. Engaging in new builds and refurbishments for indigenous communities and town camps in Alice Springs has allowed him to witness projects from inception to completion. Additionally, his time spent at the Alice Springs Women's Shelter involved crucial repairs and maintenance work has been a highlight.
Alec believes that to be successful in life, one requires a relentless drive to overcome challenges. His open mindset, embracing new experiences and learning from diverse backgrounds, has been his guiding principle. This belief solidifies his commitment to continuous growth, both personally and professionally.
Alec was the recipient of the Hot100 Rising Star Commendation Award at the recent GTNT Group Awards.
