Qualification: Certificate III in Business

Host Business: GTNT Group

RTO: Institute of Skills and Training Australia

“I received amazing training from both my RTO and my employer. The support, guidance and content delivered has helped me to establish myself as a valued member of the team and I’m excited to see where a career at GTNT Group will lead me.”

After I finished school, I still wasn't sure what career path I wanted to pursue. The one thing I was certain of was that I needed to work full time to be able to earn a wage to support myself. After considering my options (university / traineeship), the traineeship was a no-brainer for me as it seemed like the best option to get me started on my career path and help me find an area in the corporate world that I was passionate about.

I enrolled in Certificate III in Business as I believe administration skills are a necessary skill to have no matter which industry you end up in. The certificate provided me many skills that have been usual in my current role and future roles such as data entry, customer service, word processing, working in a team etc. Business can lead into a pathway for many options.

What impact did your studies/work have on your life?

During my on-the-job training at GTNT Group I've been trained in roles such as reception where I answered, direct calls and provided advice to clients, and a Pearson Test Administrator where I facilitated the testing environment and overseen candidate tests. Since then, I have gained a permanent position in the Employment Services business unit, where I provide administrative support to the GTNT Group Employment Specialists who support and mentor apprentices and trainees across the NT. From my traineeship, I've definitely gained confidence in public speaking from my time in reception and in the Pearson Test Centre, and at the same time I’ve learnt so much about the organisation. My on-the-job training provided me with holistic experience in the organisation as I was able to cross over through three different business units before my completion.

Studying the certificate has helped me apply myself in the workplace in many ways, for example how to facilitate a meeting with my supervisor/colleagues, how to involve and consider stakeholders, to consider WHS in the workplace, identify legislations in procedures etc. I've gained skills such as problem solving, leadership, communication, time management, minute taking and networking. Learning these skills has helped me improve in the position I'm in and has overall provided a better quality of work to contribute to the team.

As a Client Support Officer at GTNT Group, I provide assistance to Employment Specialists by assisting with administration and providing knowledge to other teams when necessary. In addition, I have taken leadership roles in different areas. For instance, I am responsible for taking meeting minutes and sending them to the team every fortnight. I have also gained knowledge in the reception role and provide guidance to clients who need assistance.

Outside of work and training, I have been involved in various community activities. For example, I have volunteered with Chung Wah Society to help train younger Lion Dance troupes, and I have participated in fundraising events to support the troupe's activities. I have also been involved with Nightcliff Tigers Netball Club for over 10 years and have participated in various fundraising events and even umpired games.

Hannah was a finalist at the GTNT Group Awards for Trainee of the Year, and the runner-up for Trainee of the Year at the NT Training Awards earlier this year. She was also chosen to represent the NT in National Apprentice Employment Network Today's Skills Tomorrow's Leaders program. TSTL is an intensive professional development program bringing together outstanding apprentice and trainee graduates from group training organisations across the country.
